Scripture: Proverbs 24:11-12 (NKJV):
"Deliver those who are drawn toward death, and hold back those stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, 'Surely we did not know this,' does not He who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, does He not know it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?"
Devotion:
The book of Proverbs, filled with timeless wisdom, implores us to be a voice for the voiceless, to champion the cause of those who are vulnerable and in need. Proverbs 24:11-12, in the New King James Version, serves as a poignant reminder of our responsibility to step in when lives are at stake.
"Deliver those who are drawn toward death..."
Imagine someone teetering on the precipice of destruction, in desperate need of rescue. In our lives, we often encounter individuals who are on a path of self-destruction, whether through harmful habits, despair, or spiritual darkness. God calls us to be the instruments of deliverance. We can be the ones to extend a hand, offer a listening ear, or share the message of hope and salvation.
"...hold back those stumbling to the slaughter."
There are those who unknowingly walk towards their own demise, blind to the consequences of their choices. As followers of Christ, we're called to intervene, to help them change their course. Our compassion, guidance, and support can be the force that prevents them from stumbling into destruction.
"If you say, 'Surely we did not know this'..."
Proverbs 24:12 warns against willful ignorance. We cannot turn a blind eye to the suffering and struggles of those around us, and then claim we didn't know. God, who discerns the depths of our hearts and guards our lives, holds us accountable for our actions, or inaction, in the face of others' suffering.
As believers, we are called to emulate God's compassion and love. It's our duty to be aware, proactive, and sensitive to the needs of the vulnerable. By doing so, we become the hands and feet of Christ, bringing hope, deliverance, and transformation to a world in need.
