M.I.A. is back, and she’s trading the “Paper Planes” for the Seven Trumpets of Revelation. April 17th marked the arrival of M.I.7, her seventh studio album and her most spiritually charged work to date. Released via her independent label, OHMNIMUSIC, the project is a deep dive into biblical prophecy, structured around the Book of Revelation. It also features the iconic American Gospel group Sunday Service. It’s a concept album that traces the path from fire falling to earth to the appearance of the Ark of the Covenant.
The making of M.I.7 was a feat of intentionality and numerology. The album consists of seven songs, written in seven different locations. Those include: Ethiopia, Egypt, India, the UK, Greece, Australia, and Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La Studio in the U.S. M.I.A. spent exactly seven days in each spot. The artist describes the project as a gospel album in spirit rather than genre, acting as a “declaration of grace in the middle of fire.” She breaks down the significance of the number seven with a poetic intensity, citing everything from the seven seals and the seven days of creation to the seven planets aligning in 2026.
As she puts it: “7 SONGS MADE EVERY 7 DAYS SPENT IN 7 PLACES, ON THIS 7 THE ALBUM… THIS IS M.I.7.”

Musically, the album bridges M.I.A.’s Sri Lankan heritage with her newfound spiritual focus. On “SACRED HEART,” she features her mother, Kala, singing a Tamil Christian hymn centered on the phrase Ellaam Yesuvae (“Jesus is everything”). Meanwhile, “JESUS,” a high-energy chant for liberation co-produced by SWICK, serves as one of the record’s best moments. M.I.A. uses the track to issue a defiant statement on her career and faith: “WHEN YOU THINK M.I.A IS DONE SATAN PUTS A FULLSTOP GOD PUTS A COMMA AND SAYS TO BE CONTINUED.” Other highlights include “MONEY,” a subversive interrogation of wealth and spiritual economy, and “EVERYTHING,” a meditative closing statement speaking about unwavering love.
The rollout has been just as multifaceted as the record itself. Following a surprise appearance at Coachella alongside Diplo and Major Lazer, M.I.A. is also launching the second collection of her clothing brand, OHMNI. The line focuses on protective fabrics and digital sovereignty. It is serving as the physical counterpart to the album’s themes of spiritual protection. The journey concludes with “30 MINUTES OF SILENCE,” a direct reference to the seventh seal of Revelation. It is a bold, independent, and fearlessly personal offering from an artist who remains as provocative as ever, this time with a heavenly focus.
The collection will be available exclusively at ohmni.com.
Tour
M.I.A. will also hit the road this spring, joining Kid Cudi on his Rebel Ragers North American tour. It goes from April 28 through June 27, including a stop at Madison Square Garden.
