You might know him from his vocals on Lecrae’s Grammy-nominated hit “All I Need Is You.” But Jared Foster, known as J Paul the Carpenter, is officially bringing other tools to the table.
The singer-songwriter has spent years reinventing himself. He moved from the streets of Dallas, Texas, to the creative hub of Atlanta, Georgia. Now, his unique journey from CHH anthems to woodworking is hitting its biggest milestone yet.
JPaul just announced that he is the co-host of a brand-new HGTV show called Worst Yard on the Block.
“Listen, I’ve been holding on to this for the past 10 months,” JPaul shared. “And I must say, this one means a lot to me.”
From the Stage to the Workshop
Before he was building high-end custom furniture, JPaul was hitting the road. He spent two years on a massive tour with Lecrae. That musical chapter reached a massive peak when “All I Need Is You” earned a Grammy nomination.
“Little did I know that this exhilarating experience would become the catalyst for my next great adventure,” JPaul said.
That adventure was woodworking. JPaul honed his high-level skills by building actual military airplanes. His resume includes work on the Gulfstream 4 and 5, the legendary Black Hawk helicopter, the mighty C-17, the stealthy Global Hawk spy plane, and various Boeing aircraft.
Those precise, industrial experiences transformed him into one of the most innovative and imaginative builders in Atlanta. Soon, the biggest names in the music industry noticed his craft.
Crafting for the Stars
It didn’t take long for the celebrity world to seek out JPaul’s craftsmanship. Rapper T.I. and his wife, Tiny, hired him to create two custom California king-sized daybed swings.
The hip-hop connections kept growing. T-Pain commissioned JPaul to design a custom mobile studio booth, and basketball star Lou Williams had him craft a custom studio desk to match his success.
As his reputation exploded, major brands stepped in. JPaul landed partnerships with industry titans like The Home Depot, KILZ Primer, and Behr Paint. He is also officially sponsored by Timberland PRO. These alliances led to him becoming the face of KILZ Primer’s YouTube series, Destination Restoration.
The Next Big Phase: HGTV
Despite his growing fame, JPaul has kept his operation remarkably grounded. He admits he has been quietly building on the side of his porch for the past 10 years, and his shop space hasn’t gotten much bigger.
But his platform is about to expand significantly. HGTV recently went public with the news, prompting JPaul to celebrate early with his supporters.
The 12-episode season of Worst Yard on the Block is scheduled to premiere on Wednesday, July 15th at 10 p.m. ET/PT. JPaul will team up with Tucker Kincaid to rescue the most unsightly yards in the country and turn them into masterpieces.
“I just wanna say thank you for hiring me, texting, commenting, sharing, and encouraging everything,” JPaul told his supporters. “I appreciate it so much. Coming to conferences, everything. Thank you so much.”
