MATT 10:37 

He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.

 

(Love is only truly displayed by sacrifice. Jesus paid the ultimate price for our redemption with His blood, we too are expected to make sacrifices.

Putting God in first place in our lives, above all others, is the recognition of His grace He has lavished on us, which in turn should make us want to be worthy of following Him.

Jesus is not looking for perfection, He's looking for surrender. God can do a lot of things, but one thing He can't do is be second.
