BOOST 95.5 has officially taken the top spot in St. Louis hip-hop radio. This marks the first time a faith-based hip-hop station has led a major metropolitan market.
The victory represents a massive milestone for Christian Hip-Hop. Operating as a local non-profit, BOOST outranked established commercial heavyweights like iHeartMedia’s 100.3 The Beat and Audacy’s Hot 98.7.
Community Focus Over Ad Revenue
Carrying the slogan “Hip Hop Built Different,” BOOST operates on a model distinct from commercial radio. Owned by Gateway Creative Broadcasting, the station relies on listener support rather than corporate ad dollars. That structure gives the team freedom to focus on local engagement instead of rigid corporate playlists.
The station’s growth reflects a strong commitment to the local community. Over the past year, station staff connected face-to-face with more than 40,000 residents across neighborhood festivals, school supply drives, block parties, and charity events.
“While the music and programming are clearly faith-based, BOOST welcomes listeners from all walks of life,” said Sandi Brown, President of BOOST. “You don’t have to be a Christian to appreciate Hip Hop that builds up the community and culture.”
Changing the Narrative
BOOST 95.5 features a heavy rotation of established CHH powerhouses and rising independents, including Lecrae, NF, KB, Forrest Frank, Anike, and indie tribe. The music offers top-tier production paired with constructive, hope-filled lyrics, giving local listeners an alternative to mainstream radio trends.
Gateway Creative Broadcasting first launched BOOST in 2014 as a sister station to 99.1 JOY FM. In January 2021, the station moved to 95.5 FM to expand its regional reach. Today, the St. Louis flagship anchors a growing network of 20+ stations across 13 states, proving that community-first, message-driven urban radio can build a massive audience.
