Timbaland and 1K Phew recently pulled up to The Morning Hustle to discuss faith, culture, and their joint project. The duo teamed up for Seven Trumpets, a “street gospel” album that blends street sound with a deeper message.
“I’m saved, not soft,” 1K Phew stated while breaking down the heart behind the music. The upcoming album officially drops on October 30th. During the interview, Timbaland opened up about his spiritual journey and making music for God.
“This is my way of just walking into the kingdom and letting God drive the car,” he shared. Timbaland explained that entering the gospel world was about simple obedience. “This is like, for me, just being obedient, you know what I’m saying?” Timbaland said.
He always wanted to glorify God with his talent during this season of life.
“I feel like, you know, God gave me a gift, but I wanted to use my gift to glorify Him, you know what I’m saying?” Timbaland explained. However, he refused to compromise his signature sound or artistic identity. “I didn’t want to do it in a corny way, in a lame way,” he noted. “I wanted to still keep the essence of me.”
He waited on God to point out the right vessel to collaborate with on the project. “So I just waited on God to point out the vessel for me to work with,” he stated.
Timbaland eventually discovered 1K Phew while scrolling on Instagram. “Gram is the new TV,” Timbaland said. “Scrolling is the new TV, you know what I’m saying?” While scrolling through channels, he felt a clear spiritual prompt. “I heard, you know, God’s voice spoke like, ‘Call him,'” Timbaland recalled. “And I called him immediately.”
The pair just dropped their first single, “Safe,” which can be heard here.
