Fivio Foreign Reveals Why He Shifted From Drill Music to Praising God

Brooklyn rapper Fivio Foreign is making a major pivot. The drill icon recently sat down on The Shade Room Live to discuss his spiritual journey. He is stepping away from the violent themes that defined his early career. Fivio launched into mainstream stardom with his 2019 anthem “Big Drip”. Now, he is choosing to use his platform to praise God.

“I don’t want to put it in a category,” Fivio explained. “I’m just Fivio. I’m trying to praise God through my music. I don’t want to worship the devil through my music. I want to push a positive image and change”.

The transition felt natural for the New York native. He did not hesitate when deciding to change his creative focus.

“Once I’m doing something for God, I never even thought twice,” he revealed. “My brain never thought twice about losing anything. I already knew it would be as big as God wanted it to be”.

Fivio noticed that his fan base is evolving right alongside him. Listeners who joined during the “Big Drip” era are now six or seven years older. Many outgrew the aggressive content. They prefer his mature direction.

“They kind of strayed away because it was a little violent,” Fivio said. “It was probably too much for them. Now people hit me up saying they are even bigger fans”.

Despite the spiritual shift, Fivio resists labels. The hosts asked if he now considers himself a gospel artist. He compared the question to earlier in his career when people asked if he was strictly a drill artist.

“Don’t feel like I’m a gospel artist,” Fivio stated. “I really don’t feel like I’m doing gospel music. I just name it gospel music because I know what that means. It’s just music from my heart that I’m doing. I got all types of beats on it”.

The project features diverse production styles rather than traditional church sounds. However, the message remains centered on faith.

“I’m praising God throughout the whole thing,” he affirmed. “You got to actually do something for God. You got to put in a little pain for God if you want to get where you need to be. Got to know when you just survived”.

Fivio admitted that surviving street life forced him to reevaluate his path. He recognized the necessity of separation.

“I’m not a person that got to learn the hard way,” Fivio reflected. “I just know when it’s time to get right. You got to step away and separate. Sometimes I need help. I only have one person really to go to”.

When asked about potential backlash from day-one fans, Fivio remained unbothered. “I’m not going to lie,” he smiled. “I didn’t really have that thought at first”.

Fivio Foreign continues to step out on faith. He proves that artist growth and spiritual growth can go hand in hand.

The rapper was recently baptized and performed in Times Square while linking up with Dee-1.
