A huge moment for Christian hip-hop has officially arrived. The iconic cover for the 2026 XXL Freshman Class revealed a CHH artist for the first time. Under the banner “BORN READY,” featured proudly among the culture’s rising stars is Miles Minnick.
Minnick shares the coveted cover alongside an impressive roster of heavy-hitters, including La Reezy, Slayr, Sosocamo, Trap Dickey, Belly Gang Kushington, Chris Patrick, Babyfxce E, Ykniece, Skrilla, Trim, and Hurricane Wisdom.
Reacting to the cover drop, Minnick shared:
“Welcome to the New Mainstream. We’re stepping into this representing something that’s deeper than music. Can’t wait to tell y’all EVERYTHING. When I tell you it’s up… ITS UP.”
Behind-the-scenes footage from the shoot shows Minnick giving all the credit to his loyal fanbase, shouting out, “GLO Nation or NO Nation, baby! Y’all really rallied together.”
While signing the official 2026 Freshman Class poster, staff members praised his talent, to which a Minnick joked about his handwriting, saying, “I’m just spelling it out. I don’t even know the signature.”
What is the XXL Freshman Class List?
For those unfamiliar, the XXL Freshman Class List, it is an annual issue published by XXL Magazine. Since its inception in 2007, the list has served as the definitive future look for the rap industry, identifying 10 to 12 rising, underground, or breakout hip-hop artists who are deemed “ready to take over the culture.”
Past alumni include future legends and superstars like Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Mac Miller, Future, Travis Scott, and Lil Uzi Vert.
Why This Matters for Christian Hip-Hop
An inclusion on this list grants an artist immense mainstream visibility, major label eyes, and the legendary “Freshman Cypher” platform. For a Christian hip-hop artist like Miles Minnick to secure a spot on the cover, it represents a massive cultural shift. It proves that Christian music can no longer be ignored or boxed into a sub-genre. Minnick isn’t just entering the mainstream; as he said, he’s defining the “New Mainstream.”
Miles was a Rapzilla Freshmen in 2020. We’ve known of his talent for a long time and are proud of him! From an interview:
What is the biggest goal you hope to accomplish as an artist in the next 5 years?
Create a platform that I can use to change the lives of other like-minded creatives. As God continues to open doors for me, I want to make sure I hold them open for those coming behind me.
Good job Miles, you’re doing it!
