Jesus Warned the Church First — Not the World

Everybody talks about the antichrist, the mark of the beast, demons, and judgment…

But before Jesus talked about any of that in Revelation, He spoke to the church.

That means some people sitting in church every Sunday are still not ready for His return.

That should shake us.

Jesus gave warnings to the seven churches in Revelation because there were people inside the church living fake, compromised, lukewarm, unrepentant lives.

This is not about being perfect.

This is about being real with God.

You can wear Christian merch, post Bible verses, listen to worship music, and still have a cold heart toward Jesus.

The scary part?
You can fool people…
but not God.

Here are some of the things Jesus warned could spiritually destroy people in the last days if they refuse to repent.

1. Losing Your Love for Jesus

“You have left your first love.” — Revelation 2:4

The church of Ephesus knew Scripture.
They worked hard.
They served.

But they stopped loving Jesus deeply.

A lot of people today know Christian culture but don’t actually spend time with God anymore.

No prayer life.
No hunger for the Word.
No worship outside church.
No real relationship.

Just vibes and religion.

The Greek word for love here is agapē — real sacrificial love and devotion.

Jesus doesn’t just want your church attendance.
He wants your heart.

2. Living a Double Life

“You hold to false teaching…” — Revelation 2:15

Jesus warned the church of Pergamos because they compromised with sin.

In other words:
they tried to mix Jesus with the world.

That still happens today:

• praising God publicly
• living sinful privately
• acting holy at church
• acting different online or with friends

God is not calling us to be halfway Christians.

You cannot follow Jesus while fully chasing sin at the same time.

Eventually one will take over.

3. Sexual Sin Without Repentance

“You tolerate immorality…” — Revelation 2:20

The church of Thyatira allowed sexual sin to grow unchecked.

The Greek word used is porneia.
That includes:

• pornography
• sex outside marriage
• hidden lust
• sexual immorality
• impurity

Culture says:
“Do what makes you happy.”

Jesus says:
“Repent.”

People joke about sin now like it’s entertainment.
But hidden sin slowly kills your spiritual life.

What you feed grows.

4. Looking Alive Spiritually… But Being Dead Inside

“You have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.” — Revelation 3:1

This warning is terrifying.

The church of Sardis looked alive to everybody else.

But Jesus saw the truth.

Some people know how to perform Christianity:

• church voice
• Christian posts
• Bible quotes
• emotional worship moments

…but secretly they’re spiritually empty.

God does not want fake religion.

He wants transformation.

The Greek word for “dead” is nekros — spiritually lifeless.

5. Lukewarm Christianity

“Because you are lukewarm… I will spit you out.” — Revelation 3:16

The Laodicean church wasn’t fully against God.

They just weren’t fully for Him either.

And that’s the danger.

Lukewarm Christianity looks like:

• only praying when life gets bad
• treating God like an accessory
• never reading the Bible
• casual sin
• zero conviction
• no desire to change

A lot of people want heaven…
but don’t want surrender.

Jesus is not coming back for a lukewarm church.

6. Thinking Church Attendance Saves You

Going to church is important.

But church attendance alone does not save you.

Judas walked with Jesus and still betrayed Him.

The Pharisees knew Scripture and still rejected Christ.

You can sit in church every week and still never truly surrender your heart to God.

Christianity is not about pretending.
It’s about repentance.

7. Refusing to Truly Repent

Jesus kept repeating one word to the churches:

“Repent.”

Not later.
Now.

The Hebrew word connected to repentance is shuv — meaning “to turn back.”

Real repentance is not just feeling emotional for one night.

It means:

• turning away from sin
• surrendering fully to God
• allowing God to change you

Some people cry during worship…
then go right back to the same sin with no desire to change.

That is dangerous.

Time Is Running Out

We are living in serious times.

People are becoming numb to sin.
Conviction is disappearing.
Truth is being mocked.
Many are playing games with God.

But Jesus is still calling people to wake up.

Not to religion.
Not to performance.

To relationship.

The truth is:
some people will be left behind because they loved sin more than they loved God.

That’s why this matters.

Final Warning

If God is convicting you right now…
don’t ignore it.

Pray.
Repent.
Get serious about your faith.
Cut off the sin destroying your soul.
Stop pretending.
Stop living divided.

Jesus is still giving people time to come back to Him.

But nobody is promised tomorrow.

Now is the time.
