Whether you grew up a Christian or came into it later in life, you can really appreciate a good Christian Allegory to encourage you along your walk. Maybe you rock with Pilgrim’s Progress or Holy War by John Bunyan. Get ready to enter The Void.

I am always looking for something to listen to when I’m busy driving or trying to relax at night, and I came across a podcast called The Void. I used to listen to a few other podcasts, like Tanis, but gave up on them because they met the fate of TV. They just went on too long, and unlike TV, when you introduce too many characters, it’s a slog to keep track of them without seeing them.

THE SYNOPSIS

What do you know about the dark? When you look into the shadows, do you feel them watching back?

In the town of Milton, the darkness isn’t just in your head; it lives in the woods. They call it The Void, a cursed expanse that surrounds the town, swallowing anyone who dares to leave. At the center of the fear lurks the Hat Man, a figure of nightmares, or perhaps something worse…

Sam, a restless teenager trapped by the forest and his addict father, is desperate for a way out. When an eccentric old man hands him a strange pamphlet, a whispered promise of a path through The Void, Sam and his friends begin a harrowing journey that will change everything they thought they knew about their town, their families, and themselves.

The Void is a full-cast audio drama. Tread carefully, though. While the characters of The Void may be fictional, you might find yourself confronting your own reality and those things that bind you.

What happened was, I was listening to the first few episodes and felt the hope being conveyed was more than just ordinary hope. It felt Christlike, redemptive. I took my shot and sent a message to the creator on Instagram, asking if it had possibly taken any liberties with the Bible, and he responded with this.

“…we never say the name of Jesus directly on the main podcast feed, but it was definitely written as a Christian allegory. (I’m a part-time youth pastor myself)…Definitely tried to establish “The Void” to represent the trap and repression of sin, but show that hope that there’s a single path through it.”

THE PROPOSAL

The episodes are short, bite-sized chapters that convey characters with real problems and don’t shy away from the bad things that happen along our walk. If podcasts are your thing, I recommend checking it out wherever you listen. He also announced that Season 2 is on the way.
