"Set your house in order"

The phrase "Set your house in order" appears in the Bible in two passages, both referring to the same event involving King Hezekiah:

2 Kings 20:1: "In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, 'This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.'" citeturn0search2

Isaiah 38:1: "In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, 'This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.'" citeturn0search8

Context of the Phrase:

King Hezekiah of Judah fell gravely ill, and the prophet Isaiah delivered a message from God, instructing him to "set your house in order," indicating that his death was imminent. This directive implied that Hezekiah should prepare for his passing by addressing personal, familial, and administrative matters. Upon receiving this message, Hezekiah prayed earnestly to God, seeking mercy and reminding God of his faithfulness. In response, God granted Hezekiah an additional fifteen years of life. citeturn0search4

This narrative underscores the importance of being prepared for death, both spiritually and practically, by ensuring one's affairs are in order.

Instructions for the Next 21 Days

Over the next three weeks, God has declared a time of no distractions. He is calling us to bring our households into order, aligning every part of our lives with His Word. As we obey, He promises to perform signs and wonders in our homes—miracles so profound that no doctor will be needed (Exodus 15:26: “For I am the Lord who heals you.”).

What God is Requiring of Us

Bring your house into complete order with His Word.
“Set your house in order, for you shall die, and not live” (Isaiah 38:1). This is not just about physical cleanliness but spiritual alignment. Remove anything that does not honor God and replace it with His truth.

Avoid distractions and ungodly influences.
“I will set nothing wicked before my eyes” (Psalm 101:3). If it does not glorify God or align with His purposes, do not watch it, listen to it, or allow it in your home. Be intentional about what you let into your space, as it shapes the atmosphere and impacts your walk with the Lord.

Adopt a "Joshua moment."
Just as Joshua boldly declared, “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15), take a stand for righteousness. Lead your family in prayer, worship, and obedience to God.

God’s Promises

Healing and Miracles:
God has declared that He will do signs and wonders in your home. Trust Him as your Healer and Provider. “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name, they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues… they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover” (Mark 16:17-18).

Financial Breakthrough:
God will erase financial burdens and lift the spirit of lack from your household. “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). Expect Him to move supernaturally as you trust and obey His commands.

Your House as an Example:
Your home will become a testimony to others of God’s power and goodness. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

Action Steps

  • Lead your family in praise and worship daily. You are to set the example and lift up a joyful sound to the Lord (Psalm 100:1-2).
  • Saturate your home with prayer, Bible reading, and Godly conversations.
  • Remove anything that does not align with God’s Word or does not benefit His plan for your family (Romans 12:2).

Closing Word

This is a time of consecration and preparation. Trust in God’s faithfulness as you commit your home and life to Him. If you follow His instructions, He promises to do more than you can imagine. “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us” (Ephesians 3:20).

Let’s walk in obedience and faith, believing that God will make our households a reflection of His glory.
