Day 3 | Letting Go of Who You Used to Be

Wow… how do you let go of everything you know?
Who you used to be… who you got comfortable being… the version of you that you’ve lived with for so long?

And then the real question hits—what else is there to learn about yourself?

Scripture answers that for us in the book of Isaiah 43:18–19 like this.

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” Isaiah 43:18–19

This is God speaking directly to us—His people—when we feel stuck replaying who we used to be.

God is not denying your past.
He’s redirecting your focus.

Because if you stay locked on what happened back then, you will absolutely miss what He is doing right now.

Another powerful Scripture that brings clarity to this idea of letting go is found here:

“Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal…” Philippians 3:13–14

This is Paul speaking. And he’s not saying his past didn’t matter. He’s saying it can’t lead him anymore.

Growth is required when you walk with God. Daily.

We don’t drift into purpose…
we decide to move toward it.

So let’s be real—letting go of the past, of regret, of hurt, of pain, of wrong decisions… it’s heavy. And some days, it’s hard.

Because in those quiet moments, the enemy will try to bring it all back.

“You should’ve…”
“Why did you…”
“If you could just go back…”

And just like that, your mind is living in a place God never designed you to stay in.

The past.

God already brought you out of it… but your mind keeps trying to go back to it.

That’s why some people feel spiritually disconnected. Not because God moved—but because they’re still mentally stuck in yesterday.

Replaying the audio.
Replaying the video.

And if you stay there long enough, it becomes the soundtrack of your life.

And now it’s hard to move forward.
Hard to stay motivated.
Hard to stay focused.
Hard to even feel hopeful.

And I’m saying this with love—and from experience:

You cannot build a new life while constantly digging through the old one.

Imagine planting something in the ground… and then going back every single day, digging it up just to see if it’s growing.

That’s what regret does.

And it disrupts what God is trying to develop in you right now.

That seed? It’s safe underground.
It’s in good soil.
But it needs time to grow.

So during this Reset, this is where structure comes in.

Letting go isn’t just something you feel…
it’s something you practice.

It looks like choosing not to rehearse old mistakes.
It looks like interrupting thoughts that don’t align with truth.
It looks like showing up with God even when you don’t feel like it… even when you feel unworthy.

That’s how you reconnect.

Not by waiting to feel better…
but by choosing to realign.

Because who you were may explain your story…
but it does not define your identity in Christ.

God already knew every decision you would make—and He still chose you. Still calls you. Still has purpose for your life.

So there is no reason to hold onto baggage He already told you to drop.

Here’s your Reset move today:

“I’m not spending today living in yesterday.
I’m living on purpose, in my purpose.”

Not because the past didn’t matter…
but because God is doing something new in me, and I refuse to miss it.

You don’t grow forward living backward.
And hope can’t grow in the soil of regret.

So take a moment and really ask yourself—what am I still holding onto that God is asking me to release? And what would actually change in my life if I let it go… for real this time?

God, thank You for grace that covers every part of my story. Thank You for not holding my past against me. Help me release what You’ve already forgiven. Teach me how to walk forward in who You’ve called me to be. Give me the discipline to stop looking back and the courage to embrace what You’re doing in my life right now. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
