James Moncrief was born and raised in the small town of Montrose, Mississippi. He started out singing in his church’s youth choir at the age of 6. It wasn’t until age 11 when he started singing with his family group, Devin Moncrief & The Gospel Angels, that he realized his passion for music ministry. By age of 17, James began his solo music ministry releasing his debut single, “For Your Good”, the following year.
In 2017, James and his family were faced with some discouraging news. His aunt, Rosie M. Ross, was diagnosed with breast cancer. “Throughout that season of her life, I watched as my aunt fought with strength and faith. I never saw her waiver in her faith and that was one of my biggest inspirations for my new single”, James proclaims. He completed the writing of the song, “Giant Slayer” (Rosie’s Song), and digitally released it in 2020.
